Body Care 101
When was the last time you gave your body some real TLC?
And when I say real TLC I mean brushing it, scrubbing it, and lathering a beautifully moisturizing lotion on it. When it comes to skin, people will give plenty of attention to their faces, they forget that they have skin on the rest of their body that needs some TLC too.
But hello – it’s just as important to treat the skin on your body too! IMO, its a great way to show your body some love.
Ever since dōTERRA has come out with their body butter, I’ve been in love. It has a base of this that combines shea and cocoa seed butters with jojoba oil and essential oils.
When Yarrow|Pom got added to our product line, I knew it was a match made in heaven!
Yarrow|Pom a blend of Yarrow essential oil and cold-pressed Pomegranate seed oil that helps with aging, vitality, and gives you a great glow from inside out!
When I open up a new body butter, I pour about 8 ml (a quarter of the bottle) of Yarrow|Pom in and mix with my fingers. In the summer, I will also often mix in a touch of bronze mica powder to add a hint of glimmer. Here is my favorite essential oil combo.
This body butter combo does wonders to make skin silky smooth and hydrated – plus, you get all the amazing benefits of the oils!
Last but not least, I would like to touch on another skincare regimen!
Dry Skin Brushing
This technique offers whole body benefits, not just aesthetic ones. Dry skin brushing has been used since the Ancient times in Ayurveda.
Dry brushing stimulates the lymphatic system, exfoliates the skin, increases circulation, improves digestion, and may even help relieve stress. In the battle against cellulite, dry skin brushing may help to soften hard fat deposits below the skin, while distributing fat deposits more evenly, which may help diminish the appearance of cellulite.

I am asked a lot what I use for sunscreen, and my answer is: “I eat it”.
But why did I say that I eat my sunscreen? Well, I noticed that, as I cleaned up my diet, my incidences of burning were less and less. It turns out that there is a connection between a healthy, anti-inflammatory diet—high in Omega 3’s and healthy fats—and natural sun resistance. Between the supplements I take and the food choices I make, I am getting all the micronutrients my skin needs to protect itself.
I am also positive that the silky, nourishing body butter combo, infused with skin-protective Yarrow|Pom is a contributing factor.
I think store-bought sunscreens are entirely toxic so here is my DIY sunscreen recipe.
- ¼ cup coconut oil
- ¼ cup Shea butter
- 1 teaspoon carrot seed oil
- 2 tablespoons of zinc oxide
- 2–3 drops Hawaiian Sandalwood oil
- Melt coconut oil and Shea butter in a bowl over warm water.
- Add carrot seed oil and zinc oxide and mix together.
- Add in drops of Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oil and stir.
- Place in a jar for storage. Allow to cool for 30 minutes in fridge.
I have included deodorant as body care problem for two reasons:
- There are harmful ingredients in most commercial deodorants.
- If you don’t use deodorant, you stink, and, trust me, I know from my own body and from hanging around my natural-minded community, it’s not just the guys!
Find a natural deodorant that works best for you. I use dōTERRA’s Balance deodorant, adding a drop of Geranium on top to help with hormonal smell issues.
And there you have it! My easy body-care tips and tricks for beautiful skin. Remember, you don’t need to rehaul your entire pantry all at once but it is worthwhile to make these slow, systematic changes that will benefit you in the long run.
