12 Days of Christmas doTERRA Contest – by Kimberley Milousis
About Lesson

Eight Brains a Thinking

On the eighth day of Christmas, dōTERRA gave to me:
Eight brains a thinking

We’ve all had times when it’s been hard to focus, when we’ve struggled to recall something, or when we just couldn’t learn a concept no matter how hard we tried. In those times, it would be helpful to have some natural support working in our favour.

The Prize

Two (2) people will get:
1x 15 mL Vetiver Essential Oil
1x 15 mL Balance Grounding Blend
1x 10mL Thinker Blend
1x 10 mL InTune Focus Blend

How To Enter

Step 01 – Read the Education content below. Watch the heart-warming video before you move on to Step 02.
Step 02 – Complete the Eighth Day of Christmas Quiz.
Step 03 – If you have any questions about the lesson, ask in the Comment Section below.

BONUS ENTRY
In the Comment Section below, share a short story about a time when you could have used one of today’s brain-boosting oils. Be sure to choose the correct oil for the situation!

Education

There are so many functions that our brains do every day, and so, naturally, there are many different ways we can help our brain. Today, I want to focus on four key functions of the brain and what we can do to support it.

Function 01 – Focus. The ability to focus is the foundation of accomplishing anything in life. If we cannot focus, we won’t be able to complete tasks, and, therefore, won’t be able to reach our goals. It seems so simple, but helping the brain focus is essential to enjoying life. dōTERRA has put together two powerful essential oil blends to help with this: InTune and Thinker. InTune is a stronger, more pungent blend, while Thinker has a lighter smell and is more popular with children.

Function 02 – Recall. Almost as important as focusing is the ability to remember past events. Without the ability to remember, we feel lost and confused. Whether it’s the answers to an exam or simply someone’s name, we all want to remember clearly. dōTERRA’s Vetiver essential oil is a pure and powerful option for supporting your memory. It also stimulates dreams, thereby allowing our brain to process and create new connections to past experiences.

Function 03 – Energy. At first, it may seem odd to consider energy a brain function. But have you ever been really lazy and lethargic when, all of a sudden, you had an idea and jumped up to go do it? Where did that energy come from? Well, it’s mental! And when our brains are full of oxygen, we will feel more energized and motivated. dōTERRA’s Peppermint oil powers up our blood and brain with 30% more oxygen than normal, which is why it is included as a key ingredient in the Thinker blend. When you need a boost, just rub a little on the back of your neck.

Function 04 – Grounding. Sometimes we have too much energy. We can get caught up in nervousness and worrying, and our brain just won’t seem to stop spinning. This is when we need to ground. dōTERRA’s Balance blend incorporates powerful compounds to help our brain take a step back and relax.

Everest’s video below is a must watch, both because it’s an amazing story and because today’s quiz is on it! Watch what he does to overcome his mental hurdles.

Eighth Day of Christmas Quiz

Based on Everest’s struggle, which essential oil do you think he used? (Hint: we talked about it in today’s education!)

Kimberley’s Journal Entry – DAY 8
What do I want for Christmas?

Now that I’m thinking of traveling, it would be really fun to visit my friends in France again! I still regret not getting to visit Paris. Actually, a private LOUVRE TOUR would be an amazing Christmas gift!

  1. This summer when things got really hectic at work and I was filled with worry and over thinking I overreacted to a situation and said things I regretted later. Would have needed some balance that day to help keep me grounded and calm.

    1. I’m sorry to hear that, we all have those moments where we overreact. Thank you for sharing.

What are some oils you like to use to keep you grounded and balanced?

  2. Thanks for sharing the video!
I also started using In Tune on my son (ADHD) and within the same week, his teacher contacted me to say that she doesn’t know what I’ve started using, but his handwriting improved drastically and he was much more attentive in class.

His older brother (ADD) used InTune with studying for his exams this year Oct/Nov and his marks were also much better than earlier in the year.

  3. I used to have a wonderful memory but with little kids, I have been suffering from “mom brain” for a couple years. I always find it worse around the holidays when there’s so much to remember. I usually hide the kids gifts so they can’t snoop and find them. Last year I hid one for my daughter so we’ll that I didn’t find it until this year when I was getting out our decorations. If I have the vetiver, that might not have happened. On the bright side, she’ll get an extra gift this year.

    1. I have yet to try these blends, but I know I would benefit from them greatly. Being a mom of 2 young kids, managing my home, working part time and having my own business these items would be super beneficial.

    2. The last few years I have had a number of issues with focus, memory and energy. I have InTune and use it whenever I remember, and it does help me focus, I still have issues with recall and memory on a daily basis, even with simple things that I used to know. I know I could benefit from having some Vetiver in my life!

  4. Few years ago, when my autistc son was going to receive his First Holly Communion. The mass alone can be 1.5 to 2 hrs long, he was 8 at the time. I put Balance on his feet before the celebration. He sat all through out the mass, did not have to leave with him for one moment even. People that know us were coming up, saying they could not believe how great he was!

  5. I love the ground blend, Balance and I often use it as I prepare to start my day. However, I want to share about a different oil for focus that is not listed above. Blue Tansy is my absolute favourite oil for when I need to focus and get into action. I apply this oil to the bottom of my big toes and find that it really helps me to focus and move forward on whatever task I need to perform.

  6. Having recently lost my father, I was particularly tired today. I was trying to work and concentrate instead of taking time for myself and having a lunch hour nap. I actually reached for my peppermint and applied some to the back of my neck. This evening, I read this as noted above: ‘’dōTERRA’s Peppermint oil powers up our blood and brain with 30% more oxygen than normal, which is why it is included as a key ingredient in the Thinker blend. When you need a boost, just rub a little on the back of your neck.’’ I’ll be purchasing the Thinker blend and keeping it on my desk.

    1. The “kids” blends can be used for adults and vice-a-versa. It’s just that the kids versions have a lighter profile that kids tend to prefer and they are diluted more. Before the kids kit, we used to only use In Tune and Balance with kids.

  7. I really think this is an oil that be beneficial for my daughter as she experiences similar & has similar comments from the teacher as Everest.
I was reading Vetiver would be beneficial though I think that the Thinker and Balance would be actually what she needs. I am going to get me a Thinker.
Balance works best for me while working especially on deadlines. A few drops in the diffuser and the work day starts – and if I dont it spins out of control more quickly.

  8. I was at church this past weekend and someone who I don’t see all the time, but know fairly well, I looked at her and I couldn’t remember her name. I was really frustrated and this is happening to me lately more often than I would like to admit. So, I said a prayer and thankfully after about 1 minute, I remembered her name through making an association.
    God is faithful.
I could do with some of dōTERRA’s Vetiver essential oil to help me out with memory these days.
I would love to try it and see how it helps.

  9. I have a 17 yr old son with Aspergers who very strongly dislikes school and uses the InTune for studying. I had just finished a 12 hr shift and was looking forward to a hot bath and bed but came home to find my Son up overwhelmed and so worked up almost non verbal. I asked him if he had applied his InTune which he had not and was refusing to so I took the InTune put it in his hand and asked him to apply it to me down my spine. He was astonished at my request but agreed .I explained I was here to help but need some support as well. The InTune washed away my frustration and allowed me to focus and support him in a positive constructive way.

  10. Quiz complete.
Question. Could you use a combo of all the blends throught the day?.. would it be too many oils?

Bonus: One summer I was helping out at a kids store for church and I was frazzled and my head was spinning with all the kiddos asking a million questions.
I really could have used some Balance oil that day to help my brain just breathe. My responses would have been better.

    1. It’s hard to overdose on oils….thankfully because I use a LOT! You can definitely use different ones throughout the day and even all at once.

Balance is my go-to for overwhelm – makes me able to cope with life again!

  11. 1) I LOVE the name of this day! LOL 🙂
    2) I would have loved to have these oils while in school … lol I can honestly relate to Everests’ experience when I was in school where the poor teachers would be trying to explain to me, personally, again what they just took half the class-time explaining, but I still would zone-out during their explanation and/or forget or get confused super easily and feel embarrassed and not bother asking again… made for some pretty poor grades and lots of frustration on both sides :/ BUT I made it to graduation, so that’s a plus- but now I know what to use if I should ever decide to go back to school, and just to function in everyday life lol 😛 (and will more than likely get some for myself, as well as for Ariella so she can be a bit more clear-minded as well in school)
    3) For the past few months, I’d been needing and wanting to organize our office with all our papers and bills, but the task seems too overwhelming whenever I think about it because it’s hard to focus for even short amounts of time, so I believe I would benefit most (in this situation) by using InTune to get that task finally taken care of, and even complete it in one sitting. Otherwise, I feel like all those blends would be beneficial most days 😛

  12. Had an incident where I was heading out to do my usual round trip of hitting different stores for different products and groceries. My first stop was a Canadian Tire, and when I came out my vehicle wouldn’t start. Had to leave it in their parking lot as it was a Saturday and no one available to look at it (turned out to need the starter replaced) and try to figure out how to get home. Balance would have helped tremendously.

  13. Although In tune has become one of my favorite personal purefum aroma, the day I would have needed it, I couldn’t. Back in September, I started a new temporary job in the office at school as a secretary. The 1st day of training was quite challenging with lots of calls, children coming to office, teachers needing help or having questions. It was quite overwhelming and unfortunately, the school being “scent free”, I wasn’t able to use my oils on that day. Missed them very much 💙 but I still managed to get through that crazy day.

  14. This time of year I need all the help I can get focusing. There are so many tasks to get done, and events to attend I pull out my balance and intune to help me get through this season.

What are age recommendations you give for using Thinker vs In Tune? What about Balance too for that question? This vs Steady?
