I’ve struggled with Acne for a long time, and I didn’t have smooth skin until I found these three essential oils for acne.
I have to confess: for many years, I enjoyed the privilege of living an acne-free life. In many ways, it is a miracle that I managed to skillfully evade those painful, pock-mark-filled teenage years. Unfortunately, even though adolescence and acne are usually the tragic pair, adulthood and acne are just as possible – a fact I not only discovered but experienced when I was about 30 years old.
Having acne around the same time that you are having to deal with paying bills and raising a couple of toddlers is in many ways more painful than having acne as a teenager. There is nothing like having stretch marks and acne scars to deal with simultaneously.
Now, for some people, dealing with acne is relatively simple. For them, it is a temporarily painful waiting game: it seems short-lived and relatively painless in the grand scheme of things.
For other people, however, the situation is much more dire, and, by the time they emerge from the frontlines of battle, there are plenty of scars by which they can remember their trial.
No matter which camp you’re in, it’s worthwhile to discuss some of the best essential oils for clearing your face and healing from the “acne war” aftermath.
My Three Essential Oils for Acne Scars
If you asked a Greek person, like my husband, about how to remove acne scars, he would tell you that lemon juice, ouzo, or Windex was the fool-proof and fail-safe solution. Depending on how stereotypically Greek the person is, the Greeks give you this same answer whether you were asking about scar removal, slipped disks, or strained muscles. Thankfully, I’m not Greek, so I’m able to give a more elaborate answer than my husband would offer. 😉
There are many key essential oils for acne scars, and each of them can be used in various ways and in different combinations to maximize the overall effectiveness of the natural solution. Today, I’m going to spotlight three of them. So, without further ado, here are my top three essential oils for acne scars!
Solution #1: Helichrysum
Helichrysum has been used in herbal health practices since ancient Greece and the oil is highly valued and sought after for its many health benefits. Helichrysum is best known for its restorative properties to the skin. Also referred to as the Everlasting or Immortal Flower, Helichrysum provides anti-aging support for your skin. You’ll get overall rejuvenating benefits to the skin as well as targeted acne support. Helichrysum can help reduce the appearance of blemishes, and it promotes a glowing, youthful complexion.
Use: The best way to use Helichrysum essential oil for acne scars would be to apply it topically. My suggestion would be to combine a few drops of Helichrysum with a carrier oil (eg. fractionated coconut oil). Also, consider putting this mixture in a rollerball bottle. By doing this, you will get all of the benefits of using essential oils for acne scars while making the topical application super easy for yourself!

Solution #2: Melaleuca (also known as Tea Tree)
Melaleuca trees were used by the Aborigines of Australia for centuries. The Aborigines crush the leaves and inhale the oil to promote feelings of clear breathing. They also apply the leaves directly to the skin for a cooling effect. Melaleuca is frequently used on occasional skin irritations to soothe the skin. One of its primary benefits is that it has healing, rejuvenating, and cleansing properties for your skin!
Use: In terms of using essential oils for acne scars, the most effective method of using Melaleuca is to apply it topically. Fortunately, there is no need for you to go through any complicated process of mixing oils and creating rollerball bottles! Thanks to dōTERRA’s ingenuity, Melaleuca Touch is a pre-diluted version of the oil that is created to improve its ease of use. I would highly, highly recommend this product—it’s such a powerful and versatile oil!
Solution #3: Lavender
In ancient times, the Egyptians and Romans used Lavender for bathing, relaxation, cooking, and as a perfume; it is widely used for its calming and relaxing qualities, which continue to be Lavender’s most notable qualities. However, Lavender is also frequently used to reduce the appearance of skin imperfections. Lavender also does wonders for sleep improvement and stress reduction!
Use: Once again, we have dōTERRA to thank for the existence of Lavender Touch, which is just a pre-diluted version of the pure essential oil. But Lavender is a super versatile oil that can be used in a number of ways!
For example, a natural solution for acne scars is a combination of:
- 2 parts Lavender essential oil
- 1 part shea butter
This blend is absolutely heavenly!
Steps:
- Melt shea butter
- Add a few drops of Lavender essential oil
- Let the mixture harden
The measurements are not as important, so feel free to play around with this recipe and make it your own!
