What Is A Food Journal?
A Food Journal is a few weeks a year where you intentionally keep track of what you eat everyday. Just like a personal journal or diary, keeping a food journal is a great way not just to lose weight, but to become aware of the mental and emotional components that are responsible for our eating habits.
Most of this is done unconsciously and comes from our subconscious mind. When we act on thoughts and strong emotions repeatedly, we create neural pathways in our brain that reinforce these habits and then our subconscious mind acts them out for us. That is why it can feel like pulling teeth when you are trying to build a new habit – you have to create new neural pathways!
I ask many of my customers to keep a food journal because I think it is a really good way to enhance your awareness and understanding of what is driving your eating behavior. Don’t worry – you won’t have to do this for life!
