When I stepped into a church for the first time as an adult on Easter Sunday in 1990, I heard the good news of the gospel for the first time. Shortly after that day, I gave my life to Jesus. I also began my journey of diving into the life-changing truths of the Bible.
Gratefully, my pastor was a seminary professor so he was an amazing Bible teacher. I learned so much so quickly. I listened to message after message on cassette tapes (yeah, I know I’m dating myself). I read the Bible cover to cover and then went back to memorize whole books of the Bible.
Looking back, I can see that my Bible training was exceptional. At the time, I took it for granted, but now I realize how many are not given the same opportunity to learn. I suppose that’s a big part of why I feel so passionate about teaching the Bible. Everyone ought to know what I have had the privilege of learning!
The Bible is comprised of 66 books, written by 39 authors over a period of 1,600 years. Despite the diversity of authors and the extended time period that it covers, the pages of the Bible weave together a unified story of truth so impactful that it transforms lives and shapes history.
If you’re wondering whether you should take the time to study the Bible, let’s look at a few of the benefits to help you make your decision.
Why Study The Bible
Studying the Bible has personally been the best way I have found to understand the character and nature of God. If I want to know Jesus better, I can spend time with Him, but I can also read about what He did and what He said.
The Bible helps develop your mind and increases your focus for life. When I study the Bible, I chew and contemplate the verses I am reading. I take time to work through the truths and discover how I can apply them to my life. This process gives me a grid through which I can better understand the world around me and my place and purpose in the world.
When I memorize passages, I not only exercise my mind, I keep truth hidden “in reserve” to help me navigate future challenges and overcome difficult circumstances. This truth reserve enables me to gain a much deeper understanding of circumstances.
Having a good grasp of Scripture also enhances my prayer life. I especially love praying the Psalms!
Overall, the Bible is a guide book for how I live my life and the decisions I make.
The Proof is in The Pudding
I have a lot of people in my life who do not live by Biblical principles. We have lots of great discussions. In one recent discussion with someone close to me, she was expressing how she didn’t feel the need to apply “my beliefs” to her life. I agreed with her but, instead of just leaving it at that, I asked her to reflect on the many benefits she has gleaned from being in relationship with me.
The purpose of my question was to let her know that, though she can choose to live her life by any set of principles she desires, she can’t help but notice the incredible fruit that has come about in my life as a result of me living by Biblical principles. And I’m not the only one. Anyone who applies the incredible truths of the Bible to their life is bound to reap a hugely positive result.
It is the same with my business partners. Many of them are not Christian and do not have a Biblical worldview; however, they still choose to listen to what I have to say. So many of my business strategies and much of my business success have come from applying principles that are directly from the Bible!
Where to Learn
Several years ago, I wrote a Bible study called Journey Through The Bible to help people get a “big picture” overview of the Bible – to see the unified theme through every page of the 66 books of the Bible. In 2020, I felt called to teach the study again. This time, I recorded the teaching so I could make it available to everyone at any time.
Journey Through The Bible is a 26-week study taking you from the book of Genesis all the way through to Revelation. Whether you are wanting to learn the Bible for the first time or whether you are wanting to go deeper in your understanding of Scripture, I’m sure you’ll find that the Journey Through The Bible series will be a blessing to you.
I am charging $20US for the course (that’s less than $1/lesson), but that’s only so YOU take it seriously. King David had a great principle in his heart when he said “I will not present [offerings] to the LORD my God that have cost me nothing.” 2 Samuel 24:24
And, just so you know I am functioning from the same place, I didn’t charge anything for the course when I offered it the first time, and anything I receive for this course now will go directly to Operation Underground RailRoad to help end human trafficking. Join me and gain a greater understanding of this incredible book!
