The Calorie Myth You Should Know About!

We’ve all heard it, ‘track your calories to lose weight’. This is partially true. But the problem with partial truths is that they are only a hair’s breadth away from being an untruth. This is certainly the case here. Here’s why: 

CALORIES =/= CALORIES !! 

(Translation: Calories aren’t created equal!)

Some foods you eat will go right to your waistline. Other foods can stimulate your metabolism to burn fat. Eating 700 calories of cake will have a dramatically different effect on your body than eating 700 calories of veggies and meat.

To make the matter more interesting, WHEN you eat will also have a big impact on how the food affects your body. Snacking between meals is much harder on your metabolism than eating at consistent meal times. Eating in the middle of the night, when your organs are meant to be cleansing themselves, is even worse! The best time to eat is at regular meal times each day, with 3-4 hours between meals.

Another big factor is the inherent properties of the food you’re eating. Some foods stimulate your metabolism, while other foods slow it down. Here are 5 of my favourite metabolism-stimulating foods.

Each of these tasty foods is supportive in your goal to release weight. If you are happy with your weight or you would like to gain weight, these foods will keep your metabolism functioning well so you can achieve and maintain a healthy weight. For each food, I’ll share how I use them and then give you reference links to studies if you’d like to dig into the science a bit.
  • MCT Oil: I put MCT oil in the ‘hot chocolate’ smoothie I make each morning. It provides consistent energy for my day. (123)
