9 Benefits of Sex (and 3 ways to make it happen!) 😘
As life gets busy, it’s easy to let sex slide lower and lower on our marriage priority list!
I’m writing to you today to help you get excited about sex again. First, I’m going to share with you 9 incredible health benefits of sex, and then I’m going to give you 3 hot tips to get the fire started.
We all know that sex has good-to-incredible benefits in terms of how you feel during and afterward. However, my guess is that you haven’t realized how good it is for your health overall. So, let me help you with that. Here are nine not-so-obvious benefits of sex:
- Sex reduces stress and improves blood pressure;
- Sex boosts your immunity. Having sex once or twice a week has been linked with higher levels of an antibody called immunoglobulin A or IgA, which can protect you from getting colds and other infections
- Sex burns calories (way better than being on a treadmill)
- Sex improves heart health;
- Sex gives you better self-esteem and has been known to cause people to randomly burst out singing: “I’m just a love machine, and I won’t work for nobody but you.” (My apologies to all the millennials who have no idea what song I’m referring to. Google those lyrics with the group name “The Miracles.”) 😉
- Sex helps you develop deeper intimacy with your spouse;
- Sex may help combat pain, since it boosts your body’s natural painkillers, called endorphins. So if your headache, arthritis pain, or PMS symptoms seem to improve after sex, that may be why;
- Women benefit from stronger pelvic floor muscles (more fun than Kegels); and
- Sex helps you get better sleep. The release of oxytocin during orgasm promotes sleep. Sweet dreams!
Now that you are able to expound the benefits of sexual intimacy in greater detail, some of you will have plenty of fodder with which you can launch your appeal for an increase in the frequency of said activity with your spouse.
3 Ways To Feel Sexy Again
If you struggle with low libido, reading the list of all the great benefits from sex may leave you feeling frustrated, disheartened, and maybe even ashamed. If you are struggling with low libido, please know you are not alone. For men, low libido (which often leads to dysfunction) is more common than many think, being prevalent in anywhere from 5% of younger men to 25% of men over 65. For women, low libido is common in all stages of life, thanks to our ever-changing hormones.
If you’re wanting to build up a healthy sex drive, here are three easy steps to take:
First, eliminate avoidable causes of hormone imbalance. Hormone replacement or birth control medications, and endocrine disruptors (like plastics, BPA, toxic household cleansers, and toxic beauty products) are all major factors here.
Second, find a fun way to get at least a little active each day. Inactivity can lead to depression which is linked to low libido. Simple walks or casual team sports are really great ways to get the blood moving and your body feeling good.
Third, use natural products to support hormonal balance. Here are five of my favourite essential oils which support a strong and healthy sex drive:
Clary Sage
As an aphrodisiac, Clary Sage works by affecting the hormonal system to boost the mood and alleviate low mood. Its deep, sweet, and nutty flavor helps calm stress and lessen inhibitions to boost sexual desire. There’s also an effective blend called ‘ClaryCalm‘ which is specifically formulated for this purpose.
Rose
Stopping to smell the roses IS important! The scent of Rose is good for the heart – emotionally and physically. It also helps to support the circulatory system. The aroma of Rose is sensual and uplifting, and it is perfect for pillow sprays or massage oils.
Jasmine
This oil enhances your mood and your energy. This sweet, rich scent is said to work especially well for arousing women. The sultry smell has been highly regarded for its influence over sexual troubles. Using it in a diffuser or adding a drop or two to a massage oil will bring a light, happy mood to those who use it.
Cinnamon
This warm, spicy scent is known to strengthen circulation and can stimulate appetite… both for food and sex! Cinnamon is warming; it slowly and deliciously spreads warmth through your entire body. Cinnamon pairs best with floral essential oils like Ylang Ylang, Rose, or Jasmine.
Sandalwood
This essential oil has an exotic aroma. It promotes emotional openness and increases physical sensuality. It creates unprompted interaction and helps lovers get out of a sexual slump. The sweet, woody scent enhances physical sensuality and makes lovers feel more free. Considered a sexual restorative, Sandalwood induces a state of calmness and serenity, and it relieves nervous tension.
